HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018 Venues

Pakistan Super League (PSL) T20 2018 third edition is going to start from February 22, 2018. Schedule of this mega event has already announced by PCB and total six teams will be in action at four venues. Two venues will be from United Arab Emirates (UAE) while two venues have been taken from Pakistan. Total 34 T20 matches will be played in third (3rd) edition of HBL Pakistan Super League 2018. Details of all venues (stadiums) are given below;

Dubai International Stadium:

Dubai International Stadium is also known as Dubai Sports City Cricket Stadium. This cricket stadium was established in 2009 and it is one of the famous cricket stadiums around the world. First T20I match in this cricket stadium was played between Pakistan vs Australia. Pakistan played at this venue as home ground due to non-favourable situations in Pakistan. The capacity of Dubai International Cricket Stadium is around 25,000 spectators which can be expendable to 30,000 spectators. Plenty of Internationals records have been made at this cricket. Player who took five wickets haul in ODI cricket was Shahid Khan Afridi who took 6/38 against Australia. In Test cricket Azhar Ali scored 302* against West Indies at this venue. Dubai International Cricket Stadium is considered as favorite stadium for Pakistan Cricket.

Sharjah Cricket Stadium:

Sharjah Cricket Stadium is also one of the popular cricket ground in the world. This stadium holds the record of most numbers of ODI matches played at a single venue. Sharjah Cricket Stadium hosted 228 ODI matches up to 23 October 2017. This cricket stadium was established in 1980’s and with the passage of time it has been improved much. This cricket stadium also hosted the inaugural edition of T10 cricket which is 90 minute cricket match from Dec 14 – 17 2017.

Sharjah Cricket stadium also hosted the Pakistan vs India blind cricket world cup in 2018 which was won by India team by 2 wickets. At Sharjah Cricket Stadium First T20I match was played between Afghanistan vs Scotland in March 2013. This stadium was also remained the home ground of Afghanistan Cricket team for six year from 2010 – 2016. The capacity of this cricket stadium is more than 15,000 spectators.

Qaddafi Stadium, Lahore:

Qaddafi Stadium is one of the finest cricket stadiums in Pakistan. It is also known as worldwide due to its history in International cricket. It was established by famous architecture and engineer Naserddin Murad Khan and it was constructed by Mian Abdul Khaliq and Company in 1959. Headquarter of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also situated in this cricket stadium. Qaddafi Stadium, Lahore was renovated in 1996 world cup when big final match was hosted by this stadium.       

Three hat-tricks have been taken in Qaddafi Stadium Lahore. Wasim Akram made a hat-trick against Sri Lanka, Peter Petherick from New Zealand made a hat-trick against Pakistan while Mohammad Sami from Pakistan made a hat-trick against Sri Lanka at this venue. The capacity of this stadium is 27,000 spectators. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also arranged the final of PSL 2017 at this stadium and now two qualifier round match will be played in PSL 2018 at here.

National Stadium, Karachi:   

National Stadium Karachi is well known cricket stadium in Pakistan. Currently it is home ground of Karachi Kings a franchise in HBL Pakistan Super League. It is also home ground of domestic cricket teams of Karachi. National Stadium, Karachi is also the biggest cricket stadium in Pakistan with spectators’ capacity is over 34,000. It is also criticised that the capacity of this stadium is too small for a city that has more than 20 million populations. PCB has announced on different occasions that capacity of National Stadium Karachi will be increased to 90,000 but still it looks a bit stale at the moment. First ODI cricket was in this cricket stadium was played between Pakistan vs West Indies in 21 November 1980. Plenty of records have been made in National Stadium, Karachi. Chairman PCB & PSL Najam Sethi already said that final of HBL PSL 2018 will be played at this venue and PCB has spent 1.5 billion rupees to renovate this stadium for PSL 2018 final match.
